Robin’s professional training gets results for her students that exceed all expectations – she has our strongest recommendation. My daughter, Grace, came into Robin’s studio as an advanced voice and piano student in the fall of 2021 with piano skill that reflected a decade of instruction, practice, and performance, as well as a remarkable voice that had been developed over the previous few years. After two years under Robin’s detailed leadership and direction, Grace’s voice improvement, in particular, was stunning. She went from a high-quality soprano for modern church hymnody to a young woman whose range, repertoire of musical styles, foreign language skill, and confidence mark her as a top 1% voice artist, with a commensurate improvement in piano skill that could not have been achieved from lesser instruction. While Grace previously demonstrated limited breath support and resonance, two years later she seems to have no limits on her ability to perform the most challenging pieces at the highest level. Robin identifies areas of strength to build upon as well as developing growth areas to produce a strong and well-rounded performer. It was a shame that we had to move away from the area, as Grace flourished under Robin’s tutelage and would surely have continued to do so. Regardless, Grace is now capable of performing at the highest amateur levels as well as making the leap to the academic and professional realms if she desires, and we highly recommend Robin to prospective students.

While I have taken piano lessons for over ten years now and voice for nearly five, the two years I spent studying both with Robin were absolutely the most beneficial and worthwhile of my life! I improved so much in my technique and discipline as a piano player, and in my vocal abilities and confidence as a singer. I consider Robin not only my favorite teacher and mentor, but also a dear friend.

A little over two years ago, I began piano lessons with Robin, whose musical knowledge and skill are impressive. From the first lesson, she has been encouraging and has inspired me in many ways. Robin accurately analyzed my level of skill as an advanced intermediate student and quickly developed a plan to help me recover skills I had lost over the years. We are improving my technique and sight-reading skills while strengthening my fingers. I am very pleased with the progress I have made. Robin has instilled in me the importance of understanding theory and that a recital isn’t about perfection – it’s about the student’s interpretation of the musical piece. I have had many good piano teachers over the years, but Robin is, by far, the best piano instructor I have ever had. I highly recommend her!

I have been studying voice with Robin Lynne Frye for almost a year and half, and it is one of the best choices I have made. She takes an individual approach to each of her students, assessing their strengths and areas for improvement in accordance with their goals. Her attention to technique forms a solid base for any artist, no matter if their focus is towards the more classical or more musical theatre. Robin takes an upbeat approach to teaching, guiding her students with positive feedback on their growth. She sees the potential in each of the members of her studio and works to be able to tailor the corrections to the individual and their current abilities, taking time to learn what communication/correction style works best for a student, so that they might be able to take the notes to heart and continue to grow. She strives for her students to continuously apply the technique as they approach repertoire, and her choices of repertoire allow a student to be exposed to myriad periods, languages, and styles, which is incredibly helpful in a world that increasingly calls for the well-roundedness of an artist. I look forward to my lessons each week and the new challenges she will put forward.

I studied voice with Robin at her studio in New Rochelle, New York for seven years. When I began with Robin, I was an intermediate-level student with quite a few years of choral singing experience and some individual instruction from various teachers in both Chile and New York City. Unfortunately, I had to discontinue my lessons with Robin because I moved out of the area. Robin is by far the best teacher I have ever had. She has developed a series of vocalises that target all aspects of vocal production to improve one’s technique, including breath support, resonance and access to high notes. She has also helped me with foreign language pronunciation, transposition to more comfortable keys, preparation for performances, and repertoire suggestions, including both classical and non-classical pieces. She is an accomplished pianist and can beautifully accompany any type of music I choose to sing. Robin is an encouraging teacher who has helped build my confidence and my ability to perform at recitals, where I have also had the opportunity to meet other students. I have recommended her to a number of my friends who sing, and they have greatly enjoyed working with her.

Robin is one of the best piano teachers I have ever had. I myself am a musician and music teacher, and while I was able to play a lot of pop and rock music, I didn't play much classical music and wanted to refine my technique. I had not taken a piano lesson after the age of 8. What I enjoy about working with Robin is that not only do we play the pieces of the piano but we also dig deeper and analyze the music using theoretical concepts, as well as understanding the composer's intention for the piece. I like that we do a variety of repertoire during our lessons, from Bach and Debussy to reading lead sheets from Broadway musicals. I also am an aspiring choral director and she is the only teacher I know who understands how to read open score as well as giving tips on instructing the choir while playing. I have taken lessons from Robin for two years and I feel my playing has improved immensely, especially reading ledger lines. I give my highest recommendation to consider her for a piano teacher.

Robin is the consummate musical professional and teacher. She teaches with patience, care, and detailed attention to her students, no matter their ability level. She's also a highly accomplished musician, singer, and pianist. Other teachers I tried, were not. That made a huge difference in my decision to study with her. So, if you're really serious about learning to sing, or play the piano, she's absolutely the teacher to study with. I've been her student for almost 15 years, and highly recommend her.

Robin Lynne Frye was an extraordinary vocal instructor in every sense of the word! I began studying with Robin in February, 2012 and worked with her continually for 3-4 years until health problems and subsequently the pandemic curtailed my ability to continue studying with her. I had been singing professionally for over 30-plus years when I started with Robin, but in a very short period of time, she enabled me to increase my stage confidence and enhance my performance ability substantially. She helped me to prepare for my concerts and various musical engagements with improved breathing support; she introduced me to classical pieces and assisted with foreign language diction and translation; she recommended various classical pieces to add to my repertoire and identified the appropriate keys for my selections. Annually, she engaged her students in a recital which provided performance opportunities and allowed her students to interact with and observe the abilities of her other students. Robin has an extensive professional background that is demonstrated through her maturity, patience, music mastery, sensitivity and understanding of her students' needs and abilities. She vividly displayed the fundamental elements of being a good singer through her own musical career. I relished my lessons because she always gave me an opportunity to discuss my endeavors and convey concerns regarding my musical career. A consummate professional, Robin Lynne Frye is an extremely talented instructor who possesses good communication skills; she is personable, organized, knowledgeable, punctual and an absolute pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Robin Lynne Frye for vocal instruction.

Robin not only is an amazing voice instructor with impeccable choice of pieces to build musical repertoire, she meets the specialized needs of every student she works with. She shows up with every student in a way that causes fears and anxiety to fade. She provides feedback in the way the individual student can hear it, accept it, and grow from it. My work with Robin took place during an extremely difficult time in my life. She held me accountable, gently pushed and encouraged me, and taught me more than I could ever accurately express. Thanks, Robin! Ever grateful for you!

From my very first lesson with Robin, about 15 years ago, she made me feel welcome, and comfortable. I could tell she was a professional New York teacher. She systematically evaluated my abilities, made me aware of them, concentrated on my strengths, and gave me a new desire to improve my weaknesses. Then, she taught me how to sing safely, without damaging my vocal cords. After only a short time, my confidence level went through the roof! She had me hitting high notes I never could before. She makes me want to always aim higher, and constantly improve my singing technique. Robin is an inspiration to her students, and I highly recommend her.

Robin is a highly accomplished performer and teacher. For beginning students, she is very thorough with the basics, ensuring that only good habits are formed from the start. When teaching more advanced students, Robin's extensive and varied performing experience guides students of all levels to greatly expand their skills and repertoire.

Robin Frye was an exceptional teacher, focusing on my personal needs and interests in the piano. As a retired art school director, I was a piano student in my early years, 9-17 years, and decided to start again after retiring at 65. She was thoughtful, brilliant in theory and always patient with me. She had a vast musical library so was able to get copies of scores easily. If I mentioned a work I had heard and wanted to play, she availed me of the sheet music to try. Her year of lessons always culminates in a recital of all her students, which is a good exercise in coping with fear and stress. All in all, I would recommend her highly to anyone starting out or coming back to the piano after some years away. She focuses I think on beginning piano students, which I wasn’t, and intermediate piano students, which I am.

I took voice lessons with Robin Lynne Frye for three years and would gladly have continued if she had not moved out of the New York area. Robin is a teacher who has a full knowledge of all aspects of the voice: vocal technique, vocal exercises, the anatomy of the voice, vocal repertoire. She is a very competent accompanist on the piano. In addition to her excellent technical skills, Robin makes a great effort to get to know her students' musical abilities and preferences and always suggests music that both challenges and satisfies the student. Lastly, Robin is a lovely, engaging person, a teacher who encourages but is not afraid to correct, and a pleasure to work with.

I have studied voice with Robin for about a year and a half. I am an experienced choral singer, but it wasn't until I started studying with Robin that I realized how much more I was capable of. I have noticed a tremendous difference in my vocal production in this short time. Robin will apply her knowledge of vocal anatomy, her listening and diagnosing skills - and her own vast vocal experience to help you be the best singer you can be, no matter what style of music you sing.

Your students are the luckiest ones! You are fantastic! You did an amazing job with David helping him breathe correctly, match pitch, learn timing, posture and a start at reading music. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!
